it's been a while since i've done one of these, and some of the answers have changed. plus, i feel more like following directions than setting trends today, so i'm perfectly happy to answer someone else's questions.
1. living arrangement?
not exactly arranged, but living. on my own, if you can call being ordered around by two cats on your own. quite happy with my own space, thank you very much. i don't let too many people into my space, and it feels odd when i do, as if the place is suddenly very crowded.
2. book you are reading now?
book? how about books, plural? i usually have a half dozen going at any time. right now - Elegy for Iris, The Deepest Blue - How Women Face and Overcome Depression, Freemasonry, The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay, and A Clearing in the Distance: Frederick Law Olmsted and America in the Nineteenth Century, as well as a handful of magazines including Rolling Stone, Us, People, The New Yorker, Psychology Today, and Vanity Fair.
3. on your mouse pad?
no mouse pad. Kensington Orbit two button trackball, with an eye pillow as a wrist rest.
4. favorite board game?
Trivial Pursuit. i kick ass at it. also cribbage.
5. favorite magazine?
i'll say People, because i buy that most often. it's a guilty brain candy pleasure. but any magazine with interesting, provocative writing also appeals.
6. favorite smells?
depends. sandalwood, musk, vanilla, fresh bread, lemons, the crook of the neck of the person i love, gas stations, Play Doh, the inside of my grandmother's china cabinet.
7. favorite sounds?
a good tight horn section, my cats purring, foghorns, the tide on the beach, the satisfying crick of getting a knot out of my neck.

do i have to? can i sleep some more?
10. favorite color?
green and purple. but if you looked in my closet, you would think it was black.
11. how many rings before you answer the phone?
3 to beat the machine if i'm feeling motivated. otherwise - this is why we invented answering machines, people.
12. future child's name?
corwyn michael for a boy, kendall, cassandra or sarah for a girl.
13. most important thing in life?
peace. personally, learning to live with depression, which will be with me in one form or another for the rest of my life.
14. favorite foods?
oh, this doesn't change much. steamed lobster with drawn butter, fresh butter and sugar corn, ripe tomatos with a dash of salt, mom's mince tarts, chai, the seared scallops in cream sauce at Metro, really good sushi, burnt sugar ice cream, cherry pie.
15. chocolate or vanilla?
chocolate to eat, vanilla to smell.
16. do you like to drive fast?
occasionally. if i find a nice straight highway, no doubt. mostly, it's not good because i want to be in control of my car. no death wish here.
17. sleep with a stuffed animal?
always have. lately, it's been Bix, my floppy stuffed puppy with a red collar.
18. storms - cool or scary?
thunderstorms are cool, particularly with lots of lightning. snow storms are pretty, but a pain in the butt if you have to shovel or drive.
19. first car?
technically, the Mazda Proteg¸ that i bought with my useless exhusband. but really, Penny is my first car. Toyota Corrola that i bought on a whim. mine! all mine!
20. what one person would you meet, dead or alive?
oh, why only one? i'd like to sit down and talk with Kevin Spacey, because i suspect the inside of his head is fascinating. but there are so many historical characters i'd love to talk with... oh, i suppose if you make me pick one, Elizabeth Regina.
21. favorite alchoholic drink?
mostly, i drink Chardonnay or Pinot Grigiot these days. but a good port is always wonderful. sometimes single malt Scotch, or Frangelico. i used to be a Manhattan and martini girl. and Bailey's has always been a weakness.
22. zodiac sign?
Leo. was there any question? an assertive woman who likes to be in control, whose life is run by her cats, who prefers basking in the sun and in attention... what else could i be?
23. do you eat the stems of your broccoli?
24. dream job?
that one in Alaska that i didn't take out of foolish ideas of obligation. i had a chance to work as a curator in Fairbanks.
25. if you could dye your hair any color?
i've done red, orange, purple, black, and blond at various times. doesn't leave much... maybe green, just for the experience.
26. ever been in love?
i thought so.
27. is the glass half empty or half full?
the potential is always there.
28. favorite movies?
Princess Bride, Shawshank Redemption, Shrek, Henry V.
29. type with fingers on the right keys?
yes, at about 80-90 words per minute.
30. what's under your bed?
far too much dust, and a cat's worth of fur. probably a milk carton ring or two, courtesy of the resident furballs.
31. favorite number?
5 and 7, altho now that i've broken the 5 key on my keyboard and i have to use the extended keypad, i'm not liking it too much these days.
32. favorite sport to watch?
baseball. preferably minor league, but i'm not fussy.
33. favorite TV show?
several. Boston Public, Once and Again, The Job, The Daily Show, Naked Chef, Iron Chef, Unsolved Mysteries, Law and Order in all its flavors.
34. favorite store?
any independent book store.
